Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe National Park is one of Sri Lanka?s premier wildlife sanctuaries, globally renowned for offering guaranteed, close-up encounters with hundreds of wild Asian elephants across its open, African-style savannas. Centered around the massive Udawalawe reservoir in the southern dry zone, the park features a landscape of picturesque marshes, grasslands, and teak forests that also harbor water buffalo, crocodiles, leopards, and an abundance of exotic water birds. A major highlight right outside the park boundaries is the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, a heartwarming rehabilitation center where visitors can watch orphaned elephant calves being fed before they are released back into the wild.
