Sri Lanka’s crowning natural treasure that represents the island's last extensive, undisturbed patch of primary lowland tropical rainforest.

The reserve is a vital sanctuary for biodiversity, globally recognized for its staggering rate of endemism, meaning many of the plants and animals found here exist nowhere else on Earth.

Sinharaja is a living laboratory for biologists and a paradise for wildlife photographers. More than 60% of the trees are endemic, and the wildlife statistics are extraordinary.

An undulating landscape consisting of a series of ridges and deep valleys. High humidity (80% to 90%) and constant rainfall throughout the year, generating a dense, multi-layered jungle canopy that completely blocks out the sky in some areas.

The forest acts as a critical watershed, feeding major rivers like the Kalu Ganga to the north and the Gin Ganga to the south, and is packed with hidden interior waterfalls.

Ancient whispers of Sri Lanka’s last virgin rainforest.

It is a breathtaking, mist-shrouded sanctuary that represents the island's last extensive patch of undisturbed, primary lowland tropical rainforest.

The forest is defined by its staggering rate of endemism—more than 60% of the massive, multi-layered tree canopy is unique to Sri Lanka, and many of its structural layers block out the sunlight entirely. This dense botanical structure acts as a vital watershed, catching heavy annual rains to feed major river systems like the Kalu Ganga and Gin Ganga.

The forest is famous for its unique wildlife phenomena, most notably the Mixed-Species Bird Wave. Here, up to 30 different bird species travel and forage together through the canopy to maximize feeding efficiency and protection. While tracking through the dense interior, you stand to cross paths with a highly specialized cast of island wildlife.
