In the morning, you will scale the magnificent rock fortress of Sigiriya, a fifth-century UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka that rises two hundred meters above the landscape. Built by King Kashyapa the First as his royal citadel, this engineering marvel features ancient hydraulic gardens, vibrant frescoes, and a monumental Lion’s Paw gateway, drawing visitors to climb its twelve hundred steps to the summit.

During the afternoon, you will journey to the ancient, UNESCO-listed city of Polonnaruwa for a deeper look into the island's grand royal past. As the country's second-oldest kingdom, this once-flourishing empire served as the capital of Sri Lanka between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries and remains beautifully

Today, you will journey deeper into the island's lush interior toward Kandy, the historic hill country capital and the last bastion of the ancient Sri Lankan kings. As you ascend, the scenery shifts into rolling green hills and mist-shrouded landscapes.

After checking into your hotel and relaxing, the evening begins with a vibrant cultural show featuring traditional Kandyan dancers, drummers, and high-energy fire-walkers. Afterward, as twilight falls, you will visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa).

This morning, begin your day with a leisurely stroll through the lush expanses of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya, renowned for its world-class collection of orchids, towering avenue of royal palms, and historic canopy trees.

Afterward, embark on a scenic drive ascending into the misty central highlands toward Nuwara Eliya, affectionately known as "Little England." As the air grows crisper, the landscape transforms into endless rolling carpets of vibrant green tea bushes.

Your day begins at first light as you journey to the misty expanses of Horton Plains National Park to embark on an invigorating six-mile trek. As you traverse the wild, wind-swept grasslands and cloud forests, the trail leads you past the roaring waters of Baker's Falls, a perfect spot to take in the rugged natural beauty of the highlands.

The ultimate highlight of the hike awaits at the dramatic World's End escarpment, where, if the morning skies remain clear, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking, sheer drop-off view that stretches all the way down to the southern coast of the island.

Leaving the cool mountain air behind, you will descend from the central highlands today and journey toward the sun-drenched plains of the southern coast. Your destination is a wilderness lodge or safari hotel located on the fringes of Yala National Park, Sri Lanka's premier wildlife sanctuary.

As the winding mountain roads give way to dry-zone scrub jungles and coastal landscapes, the air grows warmer and the surroundings more rugged. Arrive with plenty of time to check in, unwind by the pool, and soak in the wild atmosphere of the bush before setting out on your safari adventures the following day.

Your day begins before dawn with a sunrise game drive into Bundala National Park, an internationally recognized RAMSAR wetland site that serves as a vital wintering ground for migratory birds. Equipped with binoculars, you will explore the park's lagoons and salt pans to spot majestic greater flamingos, storks, and rare waders, alongside resident wildlife like crocodiles and herds of elephants.

After returning to the lodge for a midday rest and lunch, you will gear up for a thrilling afternoon safari in Yala National Park. As the midday heat fades and animals emerge, your 4WD jeep will traverse the scrub jungles in search of Yala’s famous residents, including the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, sloth bears, spotted deer, and wild boars.

After returning to your lodge for a hearty breakfast and checking out, you will leave the coastal scrub behind and head inland toward Udawalawe National Park.

As you drive through the changing landscapes of the southern plains, the dry forests transition into open, sweeping grasslands reminiscent of an African savanna. Arrive at your new accommodation near Udawalawe by afternoon, beautifully positioned to explore a sanctuary world-renowned for its thriving, unbroken herds of wild Asian elephants.

Enjoy a relaxing, late morning and a leisurely breakfast after your recent early safari wake-up calls. Next, head to the nearby Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home to watch a heartwarming midday milk-feeding session of rescued orphan calves being rehabilitated for return to the wild.

After lunch, hop into an open-top 4WD jeep for an exciting afternoon safari in Udawalawe National Park, where you are virtually guaranteed to spot large herds of wild elephants roaming the vast, open plains.

Rise before dawn to begin your journey south toward the coastal jewel of Galle, making an immersive detour into the emerald heart of Sri Lanka’s wilderness. Your route takes you deep into the ancient canopy of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site alive with vibrant, endemic biodiversity.

Here, you will step onto the damp jungle floor for a moderate trek, surrounded by a chorus of cicadas, rushing streams, and the rustle of exotic birds high above. After soaking up the sensory wonders and raw beauty of this primordial rainforest, you will continue your drive down to the historic coast, arriving in Galle just as the warm evening light begins to wash over its iconic colonial ramparts.
