Often spelled Passikudha—is a world-famous coastal stretch located on Sri Lanka's eastern shores, globally renowned for possessing one of the longest shallow coastlines in the world.

A massive, curved coral reef system wraps completely around Pasikudah Bay. Because the reef breaks the surf, the interior of the bay is almost completely wave-free and flat.

The absolute absence of sudden drop-offs, rough surf, or dangerous rip currents makes it arguably the safest beach for toddlers, young children, and casual non-swimmers across all of Sri Lanka.

Because Pasikudah sits in the island's eastern dry zone, its seasonal cycle runs completely opposite to Colombo and the southwest coast.

The calm expanses of the bay make it a massive playground for active travelers and divers.

Centuries ago, long before maps marked the island as Sri Lanka, Tamil artisanal fishermen named this unique crescent hook "Pācikkuṭā," which translates literally to "Green Algae Bay." Pasikudah’s peaceful isolation was shattered during World War II when the eastern coast of Sri Lanka became a highly strategic military theater for the Allied forces.

By the late 1970s, global travelers on the hippie trail were beginning to discover Pasikudah's magical waist-deep waters, and early tourism was booming. However, two historic catastrophes locked the beach away from the world for nearly thirty years.
